Tatzlwurm hiking tips for your hiking vacation in Bavaria

Choose your favorite from trails at altitudes between 500m and 1.600m according to your fitness, ability and desire. We'll be happy to help you in person:

• Easy trails in the valley like the round around the Luegstein Lake or the tour from Oberausdorf up the Schloßberg to the Auerburg Ruins
• Easy mountain tours like the "Legends trail" at the Hocheck Mountain, a round trip hike around the Hecht lake, to the 25 t natural monument, Grauer Stein, from the ice age or at the Gießenbach Gorge
• Moderately difficult mountain tours like the panorama tour around the Brünnstein mountain or the Höhlen hiking trail at the Grafenloch
• Climb to the Brünnstein house – 7 alternatives, one route begins right behind the Tatzlwurm waterfalls. Experienced hikers can climb from here to the peak of the Brünnstein and enjoy the legendary view.

• Hohen Asten: the highest mountain farm in Germany, with a restaurant and beautiful views. The two farms, first mentioned in 1390 / 1459 used to be farms belonging to the Petersberg Monastery.
• Berggasthof Rosengasse: a rustic mountain guest house from the 17th century, along the waterfalls, approx. 2 hours, between Oberaudorf and Bayrischzell

Pilgrimage church on the Nusel Mountain

A small trail begins at the Luegstein Lake and goes down in the direction of Mühlbach to the buildings at the end of the village. The trail continues down through the forests, past the guest house "Gfallermühle" on the road to Mühlau. Continue on this road uphill and you will reach the reservoir after a few meters. Cross the dam wall and from there, the trail winds down through the shady mixed forest to the little church with the nearby cabin in the meadow and the former hermitage. The legend of the church goes back to the year 1516, when children from Mühlau found kneeling sheep in front of a shrine image of the Virgin Mary. The formerly wooden church was replaced by a stone building from 1872 to 1875. Numerous votive tablets that date back to the 17th century bear witness to the faithful who sought comfort and healing here. The real place for a rest and a tremendous view of the Kaiser Mountains. Between the hermitage and the little church, a bridge will bring you to the west to Dörfli in Mühlau, that opens up to the Gemeindestraße near two farms. On the right a hiking trail begins which will take you back to the Reservoir along the foot of the Nusel Mountain.

A super mountain bike tour starts right at our door

Here's a foretaste of an unforgettable mountain bike experience on your vacation in the Hotel Tatzlwurm in Bavaria. For individualized tour suggestions, come visit us at the reception desk.

Start directly at the hotel with your mountain bike: tour over the Bavarian "Großer Audorger Mountain"

Distance: 18 km, altitude difference: 600 m, Duration: 3 h

Take the idyllic forest path directly from the Hotel Feuriger Tatzlwurm through Zeisach, Antritt, Schweinsteig and Ried to Watschöd and on to the mountain restaurant Hummelei. (Please be careful between Zeisach and Antritt, the path is very steep!) You will pass quite a few old farms, the most beautiful rustic private chapel in the Rosemheim area in Schweinsteig as well as llamas in Waschöd and: this route allows for impressive views of Brünnstein and Kaiser.

From the restaurant Hummelei the mountain bike route continues on along the Alp street down to Agg and finally along the Bad-Trißl street to Zimmerau / Buchau. In Zimmerau continue on through the farms and after a short descent up the hill to Buchau. You can even take a break at the mountain restaurant Buchau if you would like.

The route continues along the partially paved street first to Längau and finally along a forest street past the Alpine meadows to Schoiß. Then you follow the forest street down to the forest parking lot to the impressive Tatzlwurm water falls. From here it's just a few hundred meters downhill and you reach the "Feurig Tatzlwurm" – your sport hotel in Bavaria with free mountain bike rental.
